Rite Aid Viral Video: Complete Glass Case Store
This Rite Aid is getting national attention today after this story last night. The Compton Rite Aid is now completely in glass cases, every product except "drinks" per the first video. They show small bags of chips in glass cases, 2 liter soda, wide angle videos show nothing but glass cases even on endcaps. Absolutely incredible.

Re: Rite Aid Viral Video: Complete Glass Case Store
Wow.
If this was a high volume store, you would need a store employee walking with you on your entire shopping trip. Rite Aid's prices are high enough where you don't really see people filling a shopping cart very often, so this might not be an issue.
Hopefully they at least added some staff so that wait times are minimal for those who wish to make an honest purchase.

Re: Rite Aid Viral Video: Complete Glass Case Store
I thought some of the Walmart stores in the San Francisco Bay Area were bad. This is far worse.
What shocks me is that they have merchandise in stock in the cases. The San Francisco Bay Area Rite Aid stores have mostly empty shelves. You are lucky if you can find any food to buy.

So interesting listening to the uber hyperbole that "journalism" uses these days.
Careful listening to their word choices reveals their intention (and it's not reporting the NEWS).
That being said......................... I know there are serious issues out there but this smells of melodramtic theatre from RiteAid.
To whom are they sending a message to? Wall Street, shareholders, Courts, creditors, shoppers, law enforcement, etc.?

And if this store is really losing this much money, then why did they keep it open when they had more time than is legally allowed to reject leases in bankruptcy? If only the pharmacy itself is profitable (the likely scenario) then they could have moved to a small format standalone like they were showing off to investors and closed this full size store. Whatever message they're trying to send, what has been received is that Rite Aid is completely incompetent.veteran+ wrote: ↑September 20th, 2024, 8:01 am So interesting listening to the uber hyperbole that "journalism" uses these days.

Just witnessed a shoplifter at the CVS on Hollywood Bl next to L.A. Fitness.
Walked out with things under his jacket.
A cashier yelling at him stealing. This is on the Hollywood Walk of Stars which I replace Stars with Shame.
I walked inside: 1 cashier, 1 pharmacist, 1 stocker in the back and NO security (professional or internal).
Unbelievable........

Would a pickup only store be a better idea than locked cabinets? The cabinets would require an employee to unlock everything, but would ordering online save labor?

Re: Rite Aid Viral Video: Complete Glass Case Store
Around 11pm couple nights ago I was in the Temecula Ralphs walking towards produce. Pharmacy is adjacent. Saw a guy walking rather briskly out of the first aisle where all the pills are with something in his hand. In one brief second I could see the look of determination in his eyes, solid muscle build, and his face looked like he had been in an awful lot of prison fights. Appeared to have prison tattoos as well. I carefully looked the other way and went back towards produce. Heard the rattle of a pill bottle seemingly in his hand as he walked past, right out the door. Looked like something sticking up from his waistband on the back, most likely a gun.veteran+ wrote: ↑September 20th, 2024, 3:32 pm Just witnessed a shoplifter at the CVS on Hollywood Bl next to L.A. Clearly, this guy was a hardened criminal who thinks nothing of shopping the shelves and walking right out, and frankly had the look and possibly weapon needed that anyone who stood in his way was going to meet their maker right then and there.
Nice area and no security, but even if they did... I am convinced this guy would think nothing of shooting whoever stood in his way. Probably lives in the nearby desert somewhere that he isn't going to be easily found even if he committed such a crime.
The problem is much larger than glass cases and security. We've got people who have absolutely no regard for the law, no fear of law enforcement, and no sympathy for human life that are walking into these stores. I don't know what the answer is.

The issue is that police don't bother showing up and prosecutors don't prosecute.
Pharmacies need to post signs saying controlled medications are locked in a time release safe. There is a delay. Those types of pills cannot be unlocked for 10 to 15 minutes and the police are on the way. Virtually all pharmacies put all opioid medications in the time release safe.
What he got must not be opioid medications. He probably got allergy medication for all we know.
