This chain was developed by YUM to be a separate chicken concept from KFC. Original units opened in Texas. YUM spun it off to their executive who developed it along with those Texas units and some franchising started. Scattered all over the place. Many opened and closed quickly. At some point the chain was sold again and it seemed to get controlled by some Utah group. The Utah group closed the original locations in Texas.
The expansion of the chain seems to be a mix of random franchisees and some Five Guys franchisees. I see press releases promising hundreds of new units year after year. It appears current unit count is between 30-50 units.
The unit in Sparks, NV opened with a lot of hype but the prices were ridiculous and to me the fried chicken lacked flavor. If I wanted chicken that lacked flavor I'd go to Raising Canes and pay much less. The grilled chicken conversely was quite good as they seasoned it heavily but it seemed boiled and floppy; it gave off so much water that it ate through the paper liner they delivered it to the table on (they used metal trays and put food straight onto the tray with a paper liner... no container for the chicken; only the fries got a container). They had custard but it never seemed fresh and was rock hard when purchased. Probably due to lack of customers. They had a flavor of the week as opposed to a flavor of the day. I'm not sure they made the custard every day (lack of customers..).
It appears the unit in Sparks is now closed permanently as it is deleted from their website, though I just saw it operating or it appeared to be operating.

Re: SuperChix
Perhaps the Sparks location lost its franchise and is now operating as an independent restaurant.
Sort of like when Burgerim restaurants broke away and tried to run as independent restaurants. Some took a while to get rid of the old signage.

Re: SuperChix
I'll have to take a look. I was in the parking lot Thursday night; I am pretty sure it was open... unless they were inside cleaning it out/closing it... I had been expecting it to close because it felt very sad inside the last couple times I ate there.
I doubt it would operate as an independent. It hardly had any customers. That is a great area for fast food and has some extremely busy units nearby for various chains (Raising Canes, Wendys, El Pollo Loco, McDonalds). SuperChix was way too expensive for that shopping center (anchored by Food Maxx, a thrift store, Harbor Freight, and Auto Zone) and wasn't good enough for the price.

Re: SuperChix
The Sparks Super Chix seems to be reopening as some kind of "Southern Burgers and BBQ" concept. They put banners over the SuperChix signs and are using all of the SuperChix equipment inside. They even still have the SuperChix stickers etc on the door for hours.
Maybe it is the same owners as who franchised the Super Chix.
Will be interested to see if they still have house made custard. Maybe they'll have enough customers to make it fresh daily this time unlike SuperChix.
