This was a SoCal craft chain Michael's bought long ago.
One store kept that branding in Los Angeles. That store is now closing.
WARN notice shows 37 employees.

Re: Last Moskatels closing
Haven't been in years, but Moskatels used to be the place to go before Michaels bought them out.

Re: Last Moskatels closing
LA Times article shows Michael's bought this chain in 1987 for $15 million. Michael's only had 56 stores at the time and this was their entry into California. Didn't know this location existed. I looked this up and there are fresh pictures on Google with a standard liquidator sign package, so it looks like they hired someone to do this work for them.

Re: Last Moskatels closing
It looks like it operated from 6 AM to 3 PM daily (??). I am surprised Michaels ran a store like that, but given the location those hours make sense as those are the hours for the floral district.ClownLoach wrote: ↑December 4th, 2024, 8:11 pm LA Times article shows Michael's bought this chain in 1987 for $15 million. I wish there were more interior photos. But it is such an old building... I am sure it didn't look great inside.

It was old and musty 20 years ago, I'm sure much didn't change.storewanderer wrote: ↑December 4th, 2024, 11:41 pmIt looks like it operated from 6 AM to 3 PM daily (??). I wouldn't be shocked if it's closing due to theft. It is in a not so good area of downtown LA.

Mostly independent businesses in the surrounding area. It appears the hours have been 6 AM to 3 PM for quite some time, perhaps to match surrounding "flower" businesses.Jeff wrote: ↑December 5th, 2024, 7:27 pmIt was old and musty 20 years ago, I'm sure much didn't change.storewanderer wrote: ↑December 4th, 2024, 11:41 pmIt looks like it operated from 6 AM to 3 PM daily (??). It doesn't appear to sell the full Michael's merchandise mix, and looks as if it may be handling some items that typical Michael's do not carry?
I am surprised they kept a non-congruent store like this going as long as they have.
