Re: Biden Administration Sides With Pork Industry to Invalidate Parts of Prop 12 at Scotus

If we could give up just one animal protein, it could not only be humane but also help the environment. In that case beef would be the better choice. This is because they produce substantial amounts of methane when they digest their food. And their population is growing quickly around the world. Me...

Re: Stater Bros. New Decor - back to the 80s?

That Stein Mart was a Ralphs (I believe a test store for the "Fresh Fare" format) before (quite beautiful). Indeed it was. It was a beautiful store way ahead of it's time but that area was not ready for it. That area was very tourist centric back them with a lot of hotels and motels and n...

Re: Sam's Club to focus Member's Mark on sustainability

BJ's opened up a market concept on May 6 in a 43,000 square foot former glass front Toys R Us. It is half the size of a full size BJ's store. The store will have the same pack sizes and pricing. Existing members will have access to this store and new members will have access to the other stores. Th...

Re: What Stores Will Close?

This will be good for the Gelson's in Tarzana which just did a remodel a year ago but never got any promotional benefits for it because of Covid.

Re: Stater Bros. New Decor - back to the 80s?

I was in this Stater Bros. in Rancho Cucamonga a couple months ago. The store was much busier than the other stores in the area (2 Ralphs, 1 Sprouts, and one Alberston's). The store was clean and well merchandised. The decor package looked warm and friendly. And the employees were great. Even the fl...

Re: Stater Bros. New Decor - back to the 80s?

I don't remember anything looking like that in the 1980's but I will say it looks terrible. It's just a jumbled mess thrown together with no theme or color coordination. Hopefully they dump this prototype ASAP.

Big looking store there. It's an old Zody's (which were in the 70K-100K size range. They were called The Giant when Ralphs bought them and then eventually changed to Food4Less. I'm not sure if any of them ever used the Ralphs banner. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1988-02-05-fi-27600-story...

Re: Stater Bros. Employees Ratify 2022 Contract

It's been like this for a while (at least since the 90's). They didn't give any details until the day of the vote and that was basically just a few "we saved your [Benefit] and this was the best we could do."

This doesn't seem out of the ordinary to me.

Re: Gelson's Santa Monica Proposed Property Redevelopment

The community doesn't seem be too happy about the density of this project but i bet Gelson's would love to get out of that lease. They are losing lots of $$$ at that location.

Re: Smith's California Adventure

There was at least ONE Smiths in Palms Springs on Highway 111. I believe the building and center were torn down and the lot is still empty? Yes, but as mentioned above that was another venture for them when they bought the Food King chain in the 1970's (The stores were actually called Smith's Food ...
