Re: Stop & Shop closures
I was looking at Stop N Shop advertising. Stop N Shop in 2023 made a big to do around Earth Day for banning plastic bags in the MA stores that didn't already have bag bans (western half of MA basically) and switching to paper bags with a 10 cent bag fee. I guess they were charging this 10 cent pape...

Best Yet Brand Redesign?
Stopped by a C&S-supplied independent in MA today to find what appears to be a redesigned package for Best Yet? I haven't heard that they're redesigning the brand and even their website doesn't have this logo yet. Anyone heard anything about this? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OPjlObnNADC1EzN...

Re: Shaws closing stores
Shaw’s (which was bought from Sainsbury) wasn’t fully integrated into Albertsons. Case in point: I’ve looked at @marketreportblog lately. He toured a Shaw’s in Groton, Massachusetts (a Boston suburb), which opened in 2005. You’d think that store would have the Jewel Marketplace or Broadway (Larry) ...

Re: Ahold Delhaize Alumnus Appointed as President of Kroger's Dallas Divison
Hmmm. Looks like he was in Stop & Shop for the last six years or so as a VP in various capacities ( operations , sales & merchandising ). I can't say Stop & Shop's operations from about 2018 to the present have been particularly great, but I also couldn't with any certainty say that's hi...

Re: Shaws closing stores
I haven't paid much attention to Shaw's lately. Have they improved pricing? Or is the situation something where Stop & Shop is bleeding off customers to the point that even Shaw's can pick some of them up? Shaw's wasn't a bad asset when Albertsons bought it, and I would argue the original Alber...

Re: Shaws closing stores
storewanderer Thanks for posting this, I meant to do it but was busy yesterday. The two Shaw's in Gloucester are fairly close together -- under a mile and a half -- and between them is a larger and higher-volume Market Basket. The property of the Railroad Ave store was sold in 2022, and the rumor c...

Re: Hannaford closing MA store
No, the only store Albertsons acquired in the merger was a Giant in Maryland (reopened as ACME). The Massachusetts Hannaford stores that were divested were sold to Big Y. Good catch, thanks. Looks like the store closed around the time of, but not related to, the merger and Shaw's opened shortly aft...

Hannaford closing MA store
Hannaford is closing their location in Marlborough, MA, a small city between Worcester and Framingham in eastern Central Mass. The store opened in the late 90s as a Victory Markets, a local chain then acquired by Hannaford in 2004. The 55,000 square foot store is across town from a Market 32, and ju...

Re: Stop & Shop closures
The strike is averted with a last-minute deal: https://www.masslive.com/news/2025/03/teamsters-stop-shop-reach-tentative-agreement-that-keeps-mass-facility-open.html In other news, I visited a newly-renovated Stop & Shop last week. It wasn't mind-blowing, the decor is fine but not amazing, the s...
